The San Francisco Giants 2014 World Series Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Review

Reviewed by Allie Schembra
From exciting veteran pitching to Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence’s relentless hitting, Manager Bruce Bochy’s San Francisco Giants played with an all-hands-on-deck attitude to endure a seven-game series against the Kansas City Royals.  Steady pitching performances, flashy defense, and a phenomenal relief outing by World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner clinched the Giants’ third World Series championship in five years. The San Francisco Giants 2014 World Series Collector’s Edition includes all seven games of the Fall Classic, as well as a bonus disc of the pennant-clinching NLCS Game 5, featuring Travis Ishikawa’s walk-off home run.  Relieve every moment of the 2014 World Series starring Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Mochael More, Ryan Vogelsong, and Joe Panik, with four audio options including TV, home and away radio, and Spanish-language broadcast.
Film (5 out of 5 stars)
Reliving the amazing 2014 October run of the San Francisco Giants by rewatching every game (yes, even the horror of Game Six) is every fan’s perfect couple of days.  I admit I binge-watched the whole series in a few days.  It was a perfect baseball-filled time on my couch.  I found myself again yelling at the TV at bad calls, home runs, amazing plays, even though I already knew the outcome.  Being this excited about your team winning is a great feeling, even after months of an offseason.

From rewatching the NLCS Game Five, and Travis Ishikawa’s heroic walk-off home run to the opening pitches of Game One to Madison Bumgarner’s final appearance on the mound and Pablo Sandoval’s game winning catch in Game Seven, every single game was heart-wrenching, exciting, and amazing to watch.  What made it even better was being able to listen to the San Francisco announcers on the radio feed.  Watching the Series on Fox with Joe Buck as an announcer was bad enough in October.  No way had I wanted to do it again.

As the 2015 season begins, the Giants are once again the reigning world champions trying to keep the targets off their backs and make it through the season.  Still riding high from the adrenaline-inducing games, I was able to see my favorite players back on the field, behind the plate, and up to bat, to once again get my heart pumping and my excitement rising, as I watched the San Francisco Giants once again with the 2014 World Series.
Video (5 out of 5 stars)
The 720P High Definition, widescreen presentation was better than watching the Series on television.  The blades of grass were sharp, I could see the dirt and grass stains on the players’ uniforms and all the colors were bright.  The green of the fields were sharp and the transition between moments was smooth.  Watching this on Blu-ray was one of my favorite parts about this set.
Audio (5 out of 5 stars)
The English 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio was just as good as when I heard it the first time.  Being able to listen to the San Francisco radio feed was heaven as I hate the Fox announcers and want to throw things at the TV when I hear them.  Having the Kansas City radio announcers was interesting and hearing their take made for a more interesting experience.  The Spanish version, though I didn’t understand much of it, was cool too.  All the feeds were crisp and clear and listening to the radio feeds and have them be perfectly clear was wonderful… no static!
Extras (0 out of 5 stars)
There are no special features included… but really… do we need special features when the Giants are winning the World Series?
Summary (4 out of 5 stars)
The only reason this is not perfect is because there are no special features.  However, just the fact that I got to rewatch the World Series and listen to my favorite announcers call the games made it perfect. I’m counting down the days until the season starts and now that Spring Training is in full force!
