Murph: The Protector Heads to Blu-ray this January

Anchor Bay Films is proud and honored to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of Mactavish Pictures’ Murph: The Protector, a moving documentary based on the exemplary life of Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy, whose extraordinary courage in battle resulted in the Congressional Medal of Honor, awarded posthumously in 2007. The documentary reveals the remarkable life of “Murph,” a son, brother, neighbor and warrior who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and became a true American hero. This is his story and legacy.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Anchor Bay Films is proud and honored to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of Mactavish Pictures’ MURPH: The Protector, a moving documentary based on the exemplary life of Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy, whose extraordinary courage in battle resulted in the Congressional Medal of Honor, awarded posthumously in 2007. This stirring and powerful film will be available on Blu-ray™, DVD, and digital download January 7, 2014.

On June 28th, 2005, Lieutenant Michael Murphy was killed while trying to protect his Navy SEAL team during an infamous mountainside battle with Taliban forces – now known as “Operation Red Wings.” In 2007, President George W. Bush posthumously awarded LT Murphy with the Congressional Medal of Honor, the first ever for combat in Afghanistan. “In his final act of bravery, he continued to engage the enemy until he was mortally wounded, gallantly giving his life for his country and for the cause of freedom,” Bush declared.

The documentary reveals the remarkable life of “Murph,” a son, brother, neighbor and warrior who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and became a true American hero. This is his story and legacy. The film was written, directed and produced by Scott Mactavish and debuted theatrically in March 2013 during Medal of Honor week. Since then, it has gathered tens of thousands of followers. It was executive produced by Jon Sheinberg and Brian Aspinwall, and has qualified for the 2013 Academy Award® voting categories of Best Feature Documentary, Best Original Song, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing.
