World Series Champions 2014 – Official 2014 World Series Film Blu-ray Review

Reviewed by Allie Schembra
The Giants beat everybody, from perennial contenders to young superstars and feel-good stories.  They were great in the beginning, rough in the middle, and then they closed in a fury.  They overcame injuries.  They added experience and gamers.  They became the first team ever to win four rounds of Postseason play.  And now they stand alone as World Series champions for the third time in five seasons.  General Manager Brian Sabean filled a clubhouse with players whose character exceeded their amazing talent.  But talented they were, riding Mad Bum to the championship while Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence hit everything in sight.  Along with big moments from Manager Bruce Bochy’s cast of Tranvis Ishikawa, Michael Morse, Ryan Vogelsong, Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, and Joe Panik, the San Francisco Giants became champs by topping the Kansas City Royals, 3-2 in Game 7. This official Blu-ray from Major League Baseball Productions provides comprehensive highlights, exclusive access and interviews, and breathtaking footage capturing the thrilling story of the San Francisco Giants 2014 World Series championship.
Film (5 out of 5 stars)
I’m going to be completely honest right up front.  For me, this is a five star Blu-ray.  It might not be for someone else, it might not even be for another big Giants fan.  For this Giants fan, this is one of the greatest Blu-rays I’ve ever seen.  To be topped only by re-watching the World Series (except for Game Six… that was an infuriating game).  I could watch this daily and be a happy girl.  With baseball season and Spring Training starting, I was too excited to NOT watch this amazing season again.

The Official 2014 World Series Film is narrated by Colin Hanks and is complete with stats, interviews with the players, managers and front office staff.  It’s a look back at the season and how the San Francisco Giants went from the best record in MLB at the start of the 2014 season, to a major slump in the middle, to fighting back at the end of the season, to winning it all in the Fall Classic.

Hearing the thoughts and processes of the players – what they are thinking when they make plays, when they’re up to bat – it’s a good insight into the game and how the team comes together to take on each opponents and ultimately win in October.
Video (5 out of 5 stars)
The 720p high definition widescreen presentation of The Official 2014 World Series Film is wonderful.  You can see the blades of grass on the field, the wrinkles in the uniforms.  Colors are sharp and bright.  The interview portions are clear and transition from game to interview is smooth.  I felt like I was in the room with them during the interviews.
Audio (5 out of 5 stars)
The Official 2014 World Series Film is presented in English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio is a clear and as perfect as can be.  Colin Hanks’ narration is smooth and the timing is right on during parts where he’s talking about games.  The interviews with the players, coaches and staff is sharp and even the players with the strong accents are easily understood.
Extras (5 out of 5 stars)
I loved these special features.  While each one was short, each was fun to watch.  The rookie prank had me cracking up at the fun the guys have with each other, the milestones and moments were good to watch all together and the feature on Michael Morse was interesting – I’m gonna miss that guy this season.

Summary (5 out of 5 stars)

This San Francisco Giants fan loved this Blu-ray.  It was fun to watch the post season again, in a condensed version.  When the offseason seems sooooo long, sometimes you need something to tide you over until you hear the crack of the bat, the see the first pitch thrown, and hear those three words every baseball fans waits to hear – “Let’s play ball!”  For anyone who loves baseball, who just wants to see what the teams go through, this is the Blu-ray for you.  I know I will watch this again and again… and you should too!
