(May 27, 2014) — Broadway star Ryan Steele (Newsies, Matilda) makes his big screen debut as a young gay dancer in New York City in Alan Brown's (Private Romeo) sensitive drama FIVE DANCES, debuting across all digital platforms beginning July 8, before landing on DVD July 29 from Wolfe Video. Shooting in and around a Soho dance studio, Brown and his longtime cinematographer Derek McKane capture the exhilaration and emotional turmoil of a small dance company with the intimacy and immediacy of a documentary. With dances staged by acclaimed choreographer Jonah Bokaer, the film focuses on a newly arrived 18-year-old Kansas innocent who discovers love, friendship and an awareness of his physical gifts during strenuous modern dance rehearsals. Brown assembled a striking cast of newcomers for FIVE DANCES, including Ryan Steele, Reed Luplau, Catherine Miller, Kimiye Corwin, and Luke Murphy.
FIVE DANCES made its debut as the opening night film at the 2013 Dance on Camera Film Festival at Lincoln Center.
