An Interview With Chloe Moretz about Hugo

Q:  I was looking at the schedule of films you have coming out and you are super busy.

A: Yes, it's true (laughs). I'm busy, but that's great, right?

Q: It is and talking about great … Hugo is such an amazing film. The sets looked amazing. Were they as amazing in real life as what they appeared to be for the audience watching the movie.

A: Definitely. The sets were huge. Absolutely gigantic. They are bigger than the Harry Potter sets. It was two stages and they built an entire train station on the two stages. I can't tell you how beautiful it was. There was just so much detail.

An Interview With Asa Butterfield about Hugo

Q: As an audience member Hugo was a fun and magical movie to watch. What was it like to be the star because you were in almost every scene?

A: It was great, but it was also a lot of hard work. It was tiring. Long hours, but it was an amazing education for me. The backbone of the film is about old cinema and I didn't know a lot about it before we made the movie.

Q: So making Hugo was a bit like a film history class?

A: Yeah. The most amazing film class possible (laughs). When we began rehearsals I watched a lot of Georges Melies' films, but I didn't know who he was. But when we started shooting the film I looked into it further. I also looked at a lot of other great early filmmakers. I discovered so much.

An Interview With Sir Ben Kinglsey about Hugo

Q: Before you received the script for Hugo were you aware of the character you play, the trailblazing  French filmmaker Georges Melies?

A: I knew a little bit because as a schoolboy I was lucky enough to have a film society at my school that explored the early days of cinema. We saw Sergei Eisenstein, Fritz Lang and other extraordinary filmmakers. We saw glimpses of Melies. I was convinced I saw A Trip to the Moon before I read the screenplay and the novel and walked on to the film set. So, a little bit I did know. I found it beautiful because he seems to have entered the psyche, all of us felt we recognized Georges Melies' work. There's an odd familiarity about his work so I think his presence was absolutely in my conscience before we started filming.

Army Wives: The Complete Fourth Season DVD Review

Reviewed by Jami Ferguson
The estrogen network, aka Lifetime, brings you the fourth season of Army Wives on a four disc DVD set.  The show is based on the novel Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives by Tanya Biank and it offers a look at a life in the military for the soldiers and how it affects their family.  Like many TV shows, it’s preferable to start at season one.  That way you fully understand the characters and where the story began.  Quite often it is enough to start with the recap.  I wait for the announcer to say “previously on…” and I am ready to jump ahead to the current season.  With Army Wives, I do not recommend skipping ahead.  The summary at the beginning of season four is not a suitable substitute for watching seasons one through three.

Recipe for a Perfect Christmas DVD Review

Reviewed by Jami Ferguson
In the spirit of full disclosure, Recipe for a Perfect Christmas is 100% chick flick, brought to you by Lifetime. As I am, in fact a “chick” I may be genetically predisposed to liking such films. Those of you with overwhelming testosterone levels should know that there are no explosions, nudity, or gunfights.  Just a lot of touchy-feely moments with obvious pauses that were set aside for commercial interruption for the leading moisturizers and PMS pills.  Having said that it’s a very cute movie, one that could score you points with the ladies in your life if you rent it or stuff it under the Christmas tree.   You have my permission to act like you thought of that yourself.

Billy the Exterminator: Season One DVD Review

He runs the family business, Vex Con – a very busy company located in Lousiana. Billy and his team remove everything from cockroaches to alligators and it does not appear as though he ever turns down a job. Billy and his family are as white trash as they come, but somehow it’s part of their charm. Billy gets himself in some intense situations where pest removal could actually be life threatening. I’m ashamed to admit that I occasionally root for the animal when it appears Billy might get bitten, eaten, or stung.

Scrooged Blu-ray Review

Celebrate Christmas past, present and future with an uproarious and contemporary take on Charles Dickens’ classic tale when Scrooged made its Blu-ray debut on November 1, 2011 from Paramount Home Entertainment.  Starring Bill Murray as a television executive with a heart of stone, the film takes viewers on a darkly comic adventure populated by an all-star cast including Karen Allen (Raiders Of The Lost Ark), John Forsythe (“Dynasty”), Bobcat Goldthwait (Shakes The Clown), Carol Kane (The Pacifier), Robert Mitchum (The Big Sleep), Alfre Woodard (“Desperate Housewives”) and Jamie Farr (“M*A*S*H”).  A network TV president is perhaps the most cold-hearted man ever, but his holiday spirit is given a painful booster shot by three vengeful ghosts.  In this comedic update of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, Bill Murray portrays Frank Cross, an evil, crass executive who caters to the lowest-of-the-lowest common denominators while firing people at will for the flimsiest of reasons.  To change his cruel and tasteless ways, Cross is taken on a trip through his past to his future so that he can achieve redemption.

Vampires Suck Blu-Ray Review

Frida Blu-ray Review

Reviewed by Gerard Iribe
Garnering two Oscars in 2002 - Best Makeup and Best Music, Original Score - Frida tells the true story of artist Frida Kahlo, as portrayed by Academy Award nominee Salma Hayek (Best Actress, Frida, 2002). The biopic costars Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2), Antonio Banderas (The Mask Of Zorro), Ashley Judd (Heat), Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech) and Edward Norton (Fight Club). Directed by Julie Taymor (Across the Universe), the film was based on the novel by Hayden Herrera.  Frida was a passion project for Salma Hayek and it took a long time for the project to finally come to fruition after many years of rejections.  The long wait proved that just because you’re hot in this town, it doesn't mean you can always get what you want.  Hayek had to pay her dues like everyone else and build herself up as an actress and producer first to get this done.  It also helps that the script for Frida was that good.
